Paul Heising's Personal Info

I grew up in Montclair, New Jersey and graduated from Montclair High School in 1974. At MHS I played on the chess team and hung out at the fledgling Computer Center. I was in the National Honor Society, the MHS and NJ Prep symphony orchestras (bassoon player) and was a National Merit Scholar.

I attended Dartmouth College and got my B.A. (majoring in mathematics) in 1978. I played one year in the Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra (contra-bassoon!), and I hung out alot at the Computer Center (Kiewit) THERE too and on conference XYZ ( a forerunner of today's "chat rooms").

After graduating from Dartmouth, I worked at Prime Computers (now part of Computervision), in Newton and then Framingham, from 1978 until 1991. I was a member of the Framingham Chess Club from 1983-1988 (and again in 1995) and won the Framingham Chess Club Challenge Cup in 1986.

I earned a master's degree in Computer Science from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1997. Thanks to Data General for covering my night school tuitions!

I live with my cat in a townhouse condo I bought in May 2000 in Natick, Mass. Before that I lived in Millbury, Mass for 14 years.

Starting in late 2002 I've been training for and competing in triathlons. I'm still very much a beginner. I finished the Ashland Lions Triathlon (International distance: 1 mile swim, 26 mile bike ride, 6.3 mile run) in June 2004!

I was employed as a software engineer at Data General from 1991 until 1998. From 1998 until 2001 I worked at Ironbridge Networks. From February, 2001, until June 2002 I worked at Cereva Networks. From September, 2002, until July 2004 I worked at Egenera. On October 12, 2004, I started my new job at EMC in the Clariion division.

Hey! I quit smoking on December 16, 1996!!
